Things can look good from the outside: a picture-perfect exterior of a happy family, a good job, and impressive accomplishments. But if things do not feel good on the inside, in your heart and in your mind, these things can feel like a performance, a mask to hide your pain from the world, and a way to survive in difficult times. The contrast between how things look on the outside and how you are feeling on the inside can create anxiety, hopelessness, and fear.
My work is to help you build trust with yourself, with your body, your mind, and your spirit, to reduce the gap between what the outside looks like and what the inside feels like. To guide you, challenge you, and help you feel safe around another person in the process. I will utilize insightful questions, helpful feedback, education on mental health, and body-based exercises to promote self-awareness, safety, and regulation.
I am a Licensed Master of Social Work, and mental health is my second career, a path I pursued after a decade of working in politics at the local and national level. As a therapist, it is still important to me to keep in mind the societal, environmental, and community factors that impact mental health, along with our personal relationships and our relationship with ourselves. I am an affirming and inclusive practitioner to all identities and experiences. Outside of work, I like to thrift clothing, hang out with my dog, and putter around the house.
